Faculty of Science

The Faculty of Science is a multinational and multicultural network where intellectual minds meet. It is renowned worldwide for promoting scholars who embody the mission of excellence in research, teaching, and the exchange of knowledge.

20.8% of the professoriate staff in the Science departments are classified top 1% scholars in average over the past decade in the Clarivate Analytics’ Essential Science Indicators. Scholars are recognised by prestigious academies – the Faculty includes five members of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, seven members/ foreign members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and nine memberships of foreign Science Academies.

Faculty of Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering is one of the founding Faculties of HKU. Over the past century, it has nurtured engineering research and talent for the local and international communities, industries and the world of research. 

The Faculty consists of world-class researchers and scholars representing a broad range of engineering and applied science. Our curriculum is specially designed to build a strong foundation in the basics yet cover such emerging areas including data science, artificial intelligence (A.I.), FinTech, advanced robotics, sustainable infrastructure and bio-nano materials.

LKS Faculty of Medicine

HKUMed have continually set the benchmark for excellence in Asia. It was ranked 18th worldwide in the subject of Medical and Health in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and 28th globally in Life Sciences and Medicine in the 2026 Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject.

At HKUMed there are many support systems in place – financial, facilities, advice and networks – to help students join various local and overseas learning programmes, including clinical attachments, exchanges, service trips and study tours.

School of Innovation

The HKU School of Innovation was established in November 2024 to transform how universities cultivate innovation and technology talent. Since welcoming its first cohort of students, the I-School has translated its educational vision into action through a robust curriculum centred on experiential, interdisciplinary, and project-based learning. 

Through project-led, problem-based learning that integrates design thinking, entrepreneurship, and industry collaboration, the I-School prepares students to tackle complex real-world challenges. The School offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes designed to develop both technical capabilities and the innovative mindset needed to turn ideas into impactful solutions for Hong Kong and beyond.
